Team Takes Honors at Regional Financial Competition

BAKERSFIELD — After a grueling three-day financial planning competition, Pepperdine University Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team takes first place at the “Duel in Golden State” competition.  The team will go on to competition in the national competition at the University of Arizona in the 5th Annual Duel in the Desert National competition March 1-4, 2007.

Business students Nebiel Shaw, Josh Fadley, Jordan Drake, and Daniel Johnson participated in the three day event held at California State University Bakersfield.  The team was presented a realistic financial scenario and was given 36 hours to develop a solution by utilizing any resources necessary excluding university faculty members.  The team called parents, friends, co-workers, and business professionals to solve their case.  They were surprised to find how helpful members of the business community were.  Josh Fadley stated that the team even dropped by a local State Farm agency in Bakersfield to help they solve their case.

Every year Pepperdine University SIFE participates in a regional financial planning competition.  Students are presented a financial scenario and are expected to provide a viable solution to the case.  On the final day students give a full presentation to a panel of judges.  Similar regional competitions are held around the country and first place winners go on to compete in the national competition.
